A New Business Concept
TragaLuz is a new agricultural business model designed to remove CO2 from the air, repair depleted soils, grow nutrient dense foods and engage large numbers of people in meaningful, dignified work.
TragaLuz applies principles and technologies that reverse the negative impacts that human communities have on the natural systems that support life. By taking a systems view of every aspect of operations, TragaLuz addresses a broad array of pressing issues like, climate change, depletion of agricultural soils, water contamination, poverty and worker displacement, dependence on fossil fuels, deforestation and overuse of pesticides and fertilizers.
Sun Powered Agriculture
The heart of the technology for TragaLuz is the growing development in the area of Biochar and Terra Preta. Terra Preta, or “Black Earth” is ancient man-made soils in the Amazon valley created by the indigenous peoples of that area. The soil is highly fertile and rich in stabilized carbon in the form of charcoal. The biological content of the soil is many times more active than neighboring soils not managed by populations.
Deep Horizon Investing
Funding mechanisms for new enterprises typically seek significant financial returns on investment in very short time frames, often measured in months or years rather than decades. Yet, the enormity of the cultural, economic and social shifts that face the human community, it will be necessary to take a much longer term view of what investment means.
The Power of an Idea
Climate change is an abstract concept. It is difficult for the average person to connect on a personal level with global warming, green house gases and the impact of the industrial systems on quality of life. One of the cornerstone principles of Tragaluz is to create environments where people can have a visceral experience of “carbon offsets”. Where the effects of fertile soil bursting with living systems can be experienced first hand.
